Acute hospitals are not equipped to care for medically-complex patients needing longer periods of hospitalization. Patients in this category are transferred to a Long-Term Acute facility, Integrity Transitional Hospital (LTAC), to continue with a higher level of care or to prepare them to step down in their level care to a skilled nursing facility, sub-acute care or to home.
